Have you ever heard of the Gullah?  Probably not.   The Gullah culture exists on the coastal islands of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida.  Stepping onto those islands is like stepping into the past.  Read the following and answer these questions in your notebooks.

1.  What are the origins of the Gullah language?

2.  Explain the statement that "Gullah is more than a language or dialect....it is a culture"?
