North Carolina was one of the thirteen original colonies and also a member of the Confederacy during the Civil War.  Its history is marked by haunting imagery from the Revolutionary War, to the Civil War, from slavery, to the Cherokee tribe forced march to the Indian lands of Oklahoma.
