You have done research and have made sure that the school has the programs, extracurricular
activities and location that you want.
It is now time to schedule a tour.
You can revisit the school's website and usually under the admissions section
there will be a list of tour times. If not, call the admission's office to find
out when the tours are held.
Some tours are opened on a first come, first served basis. Some tours require
reservations.
Helpful Hints for a Successful Tour
- Try to schedule the tour early in the day.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Bring a small notebook to write down any important information and your initial
observations and feelings about the school and campus.
- Bring a list of questions that you want to ask. The tour guides are
often students. They will know the college and campus best.
- If the college is a few hours drive from your house, you should schedule
an interview after the tour. You will have to call ahead to arrange
this. Scheduling the tour and interview for the same day, especially
if the school is some distance from your home, will save you time and travel
expenses. You will also be able to ask any questions that were not
answered during the tour.
- Some colleges offer an overnight visit. If this option is available,
take it. This way you can experience the dorms, food and campus life
first hand. If classes are in session, ask if you can sit in on one.
