Salem Village was
in very many ways
just a small town
with typical squabbles
among neighbors.
Some believe that
the witch hunts
were not so much
the search for
actual witches,
but were, in fact,
a way for the
quarreling parties
to " get even".
Look at the court case
involving Francis Nurse
and give your opinion
on the possible motives
for revenge.
Be sure to answer
the following questions
in your notebook.

1. What character
from the play
is mentioned
in the court case?
Summarize what
his case is about
and see if that
impacts on the
plot of the play.

2. After reading
these court cases,
what do you think
about the people
of the late 1600's.
Are they similar
or different
to the people
of today?
Give at least
3 comparisons
in your answer.

4. After reading
these laws and
the various notations
after them,
why do you think
that these people
felt so strongly
about their law?
