Sir William Harvey

Sir William Harvey was born in England in 1578 and was a contemporary of Galileo. In fact, Harvey studied medicine at the University of Padua during Galileo's tenure there. There are no records of the two ever crossing each others path, but who is to say that it never happened! |
Sir William Harvey is best known for his studies on circulation. It was he who first developed the theory that blood was pumped from the heart through the body and then back to the heart. He died in 1657 after a distinguished career.
